Re-branding is all go
With more of our time spent on websites than multimedia and a timely meet with an aspiring new graphic designer SPF decided to re-brand. What a great idea as re-branding turned out to be refreshing and fun.
Now not many would know that the SPF in SPF Multimedia stands for "Small Pacific Fish". So with this we were thinking a professional yet memorable and fun logo could be designed. We love it and although a dolphin is not technically a fish there are three strong reasons for deciding to go ahead with our "Small Pacific Dolphin".
We support the dolphins plight in various areas and approve of the idea of creating awareness to these intelligent creatures:
1. Save the Hector Dolphin from extinction- Hector’s and Maui’s dolphins are New Zealand’s national treasures – these beautiful, tiny marine mammals only live in New Zealand’s coastal waters – nowhere else in the world.
- The dolphins are among the world’s smallest cetaceans, easily recognised by their distinctive dorsal fin shaped like a Mickey Mouse ear.
- What makes Hector’s and Maui’s dolphins even more special is that today very few survive.
- Both are classified as endangered. Maui’s dolphins are the world’s most rare marine cetacean – their entire population is estimated at just 111 individuals – on the very edge of extinction.

2. Ban all trawl net fishing
- The biggest threats to Hector’s and Maui’s are set net and trawl fishing.
- A 2008 report by the National Institute of Water and Atmospheric Research (NIWA) estimates that 110 to 150 Hector's and Maui's dolphins die in commercial set nets every year

3. Moral standing
quote from The Sunday Times:
Dolphins have been declared the world’s second most intelligent creatures after humans, with scientists suggesting they are so bright that they should be treated as “non-human persons”. Thomas White, professor of ethics at Loyola Marymount University, Los Angeles, who has written a series of academic studies suggesting dolphins should have rights. “The scientific research . . . suggests that dolphins are ‘non-human persons’ who qualify for moral standing as individuals,” he said.
